Wedding Traditions

Weddings are more than a ceremony  bringing
two people together, it's about traditions.

"Something old, Something New,
Something Borrowed, Something Blue
and a Silver Sixpence in her Shoe".

This rhyme originated in Victorian times. "Something Old" signifies that the Couple's friends will stay with them.
In one version of the tradition the "Something Old" was
an old garter which was given to the bride by a happily married woman so that the new bride would also enjoy
a happy marriage.
  ~Creating your Special Ceremony~

~Unity Candle
There are three candles on the Unity table.  You will each take a lighted candle,
representing your previous separate pathways, and together you will light the
Unity candle, symbolizing your willingness to walk life's pathways together as one.

~Unity Sand~
The Sand Ceremony adds a Hawaii twist to the traditional unity candle tradition.
Like a unity candle the sand is used to symbolize the joining of two people a
nd/or the joining of their families.

~Wine Ceremony~
The wine wedding ceremony is to pour a glass of wine, talk about it's aging and
mellowing and about sharing wine together, then each the bride and groom drink from it.

~Handfasting Ceremony~
"Handfasting" is an old wedding custom of the binding of two spirits into one.
A braided cord is used and it is wrapped around your left hands.  Symbolizing the binding
of two into one.  If you are looking for a more spiritual ceremony this is very moving.

~Extended Families~
You can take any special ceremony and incorporate your children so that they are a
part of the ceremony.  Making a commitment of not just becoming husband and wife
but a commitment of becoming a family.
